Unsolicited – Story and Treatment by Mark Donahue

This Unsolicited trailer is for private use only. Not for broadcast.

Logline: After the death of her young husband, CHRISTINE BRADLEY, a prominent NY book editor, moves upstate to the small town where she spent happy summers as a child. In her family’s old cabin, she isolates herself, focusing on her work, trying to forget the past. It’s a struggle. Restless nights and too much wine erode her concentration. The unread manuscripts pile up.

One afternoon she finds a battered, overstuffed envelope on her doorstep. No return address. It’s an unsolicited manuscript submission—which she’s not even supposed to look at. She ignores it at first, attacking the huge stack of material sent by her publisher. Many hours and hundreds of pages later, she’s less than impressed. About to call it a night, she notices the envelope on her coffee table. She decides to take a chance, and tears it open. The novel’s title is Unsolicited, by “Jason.” No last name. No other information. The cover letter concisely outlines the plot: A grief-stricken book editor moves to the country after the death of her husband—then dies herself, alone and terrified. It ends up in her fireplace before she reads another word. The fire consumes the paper, but what follows will consume her.
